About the wheelchair project conducted by COIL
The systematic method of wheelchair instruction has only been established in Germany and Sweden. At COIL, we provide various services related to wheelchairs based on the instruction program perfected for the Japanese from the German-style method developed by Dr. Horst Strohkendl, who is known as the authority of wheelchair sports.
Educating wheelchair skills instructors We conduct trainings for instructors about wheelchair skills Wheelchair users do not have many opportunities to acquire wheelchair skills, be it on a medical, educational or welfare scene. This is because professionals usually do not have the chance to learn about wheelchair skills instruction in the process of their education. In our business we aim to improve wheelchair users’ quality of life and the services of medical and other professional institutions, by conducting trainings where you can aquire wheelchair skills instruction qualifications quickly and efficiently. |
Support and disaster prevention training We conduct trainings about how to support wheelchair users, especially during times of emergencies and disasters By learning wheelchair skills, you can understand more about the operating characteristics of wheelchairs. In this training, you can learn about how to support wheelchair users by actually experiencing level differences, bad road conditions and narrow streets. Also, by acquiring support skills you can use when climbing stairs or emergencies, you can improve your response capabilities during disasters. |
Business trainings (Diversity, Barrier-free mindset) Through learning wheelchair skills, you can acquire skills that can be used in business This is an interactive training program based on wheelchair skills. You can learn about the barrier-free mindset necessary for diversity. Through solving various problems while using a wheelchair, you can also improve communication skills and do team building. |
Disability sports training You can learn about the significance and instruction of disability sports by participating in wheelchair sports. It is well known that sports are efficient for the promotion of participation of people with disabilities in society as well as maintaining their health. However, professional know-how is necessary to encourage continuous participation at the beginning. Using wheelchairs as an example, we provide training that can be utilized at the beginning of sports instruction. |
Creating new businesses We propose new businesses utilizing wheelchairs We provide proposals regarding new businesses and services in the field of disabilities, and improving the services and proposing new businesses in the medical or welfare field related to people with disabilities by training instructors who can conduct wheelchair skills education. |
Designing a barrier-free, welcoming environment We propose designs for creating barrier-free services and facilities In order to create an inclusive society, it is imperative that we promote barrier-free mindset and environments. We conduct training for a barrier-free mindset, and propose barrier-free designs for buildings based on our knowledge about wheelchairs. |
Planning and operating wheelchair experiences We plan and operate experiences and events utilizing wheelchairs Usually, in wheelchair experiences, the inconvenience and the problems are exaggerated, and it has been pointed out that this causes the bias towards people with disabilities to worsen. By acquiring wheelchair skills, the awareness towards wheelchairs changes greatly. In the COIL program, we aim to promote a barrier-free mindset by wiping out negative biases towards wheelchairs. |
